Hello! I’m Michelle
I knew when I was 16-years of age that my future would be a career as a Psychologist. I was that kid who was always interested in helping others and learning about the tools and mindset that allows us humans to cope with the numerous challenges that life throws at us. I started my career working with people who were living with a terminal diagnosis. Helping people face the last months, weeks, and minutes of their lives was a deep honour and something that taught me a lot about sitting with fear, impermanence and uncertainty. After that, I worked with young people for about 7-years. I loved working with the teenage clients because they are at an age where they are really defining who they are, figuring out their path in life, working out their purpose and questioning everything (and everyone). I was 25 when I decided to jump into private practice. This had been my goal right from the start. Based in New Farm, at indigoHouse, I established a thriving practice within a natural therapies clinic and enjoyed seeing the benefits of a multi-modal approach on client outcomes. In 2008, I moved to Byron Bay and set up a practice there for about 4-years, and then at the end of 2011, I decided to take a break from psychology and took up organic farming for 2-years. After that, I completed my Yoga Teacher Training. And then in 2018, I decided it was time to return to private practice, first with Mindset Coaching, and then I recommenced my Psychology practice in 2019 after jumping through all the hoops to get re-registered. It’s not the most conventional psychology career, but it’s been very rewarding, and I’ve had a lot of fun and most importantly, learned a lot about myself along the way.
My Approach & Values
My approach is eclectic because I work with a broad cross-section of people and a wide range of presenting concerns. I lean heavily on mindfulness based approaches, like Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT); and also draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Neuroscience, Schema Therapy, Process-Oriented Psychology, Client-Centred Therapy and more.
I value a relaxed, warm and open atmosphere. I value authenticity, diversity, respect and open communication. I value curiousity, care and compassion. I value showing up, doing the work, taking responsibility and working towards a better future.
